Tom Aungst on the Evolution of Technique, Teaching and Arranging

As a marching percussion educator, designer and arranger, Tom Aungst has been at the top of the game ever since he began teaching in 1985 as a snare tech with The Cadets. Over the years, Tom has contributed to the Cadets’ nine DCI world championships and seven high percussion awards. Mr. Aungst has always remained actively involved in the drum corps activity and working with various groups such as the Blue Stars, Pacific Crest, Hawthorne Caballeros, and the Connecticut Hurricanes. Tom is a member of The Cadets, Drum Corps International, World Drum Corps, and the WGI Halls of Fame.

Brian Stockard, Zildjian’s Artist Relations Manager for Marching, Concert and Drum Set Education sits down with Tom to talk about the evolution of his technique program, how his teaching methods have changed over the years and his arrangements for the 2021 Cadets’ program “Shall Always Be.”
