MALLETS USED IN THIS ETUDE INCLUDE:

Virtuoso Series

Designed for the solo marimba performer, the Virtuoso Series features a rubber core wrapped with a wool blend yarn for an especially warm and full-bodied sound. The 17″ handles are made of birch with a unique slip-resistant finish for excellent feel and enhanced control. A fine choice in ensemble settings as well!

ABOUT THE PIECE

Echoes by Kevin Bobo was commissioned by Dr. Julia Gaines, Professor of Percussion at The University of Missouri Columbia. The piece is unlike most of the pieces Bobo has written for solo marimba in that it is not virtuosic or loud. It utilizes a simple “flam-tap” technique, along with exact pitch relationships to help give the piece its title.

Internationally acclaimed marimbist and percussionist, Kevin Bobo is currently serving as Associate Professor of Music (Percussion) at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He has performed nationally and internationally as a solo recitalist, clinician, and orchestral percussionist. He holds a Bachelors Degree from Wichita State University where he studied with J.C. Combs and a Masters Degree from Ithaca College where he studied with Gordon Stout.
